Easy Everyday Recipe: Danish Burning Love

Known by the Danes as "Brændende Kærlighed", Burning Love is a traditional Danish dish that combines creamy mashed potatoes, crispy bacon, and sweet caramelized onions for the ultimate comfort food. Ready in just thirty minutes, this easy-to-follow recipe is perfect for family meals and special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1.5kg potatoes
  • 350g bacon
  • 100ml milk
  • 150g butter
  • 3 onions
  • 1 handful of chives, finely chopped
  • 1 handful of parsley, coarsely chopped
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation

Time: 45 minutes

  1. Peel and dice the potatoes into small, evenly sized chunks and boil until tender. Once drained, mash the potatoes in a pot, gradually introducing the milk to achieve a smooth and creamy consistency. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.

  2. Fry the bacon over medium heat until crispy, then set aside on a paper towel. In the same pan, saute the sliced onions in bacon fat and butter until soft and caramelized. Season with black pepper.

  3. Spoon the mashed potatoes onto plates, top with the caramelized onions and crispy bacon. Garnish with fresh parsley and chives. Serve hot and enjoy!
